Woman hit with bottle on World Cup night out in Ormskirk

“I can understand why people may think that something more serious had happened but it was down to the sheer volume of people congregating in a small space.”

Sgt Monk explained that the police were called to Alpine around 1am after a small ‘scuffle’ between four men who were ejected by the door staff.

“Officers then went into the club to help empty the place as it was coming up to last orders. The police helicopter was in the area and we signalled them to monitor what was going on outside the club.

“At this point as people congregated outside, a glass bottle was thrown and hit a woman in the head. This incident was only reported to us a few days later and enquiries are ongoing.”

Six people were arrested outside Alpine for drunken disorderly and nine similar arrests were made throughout the course of the evening. However, no arrests were made on Friday night.

Craig Carlos, owner of Alpine said that he was sorry to hear that someone had been injured.

“Safety is of the utmost importance to us and our customers. We have a good team of door men and police did their best with the situation.”

Sgt Monk added: “We advised door staff at the Mustard Club to not let anyone out until we cleared everyone away from the Moorgate and Moor Street area.

“I think there was a little tension over the football and some of our officers were being verbally abused, but managed to calm the situation down.

“We have been working with the bars in Ormskirk to make sure people drink responsibly.”
