Police release CCTV images of men believed to be from Skelmersdale after man is attacked and robbed

POLICE have released CCTV images of two men believed to be from Skelmersdale after a man was assaulted and robbed.

The attack happened around 9pm on June 16, when a 33-year-old man was standing at a bus stop on Wallgate in Wigan, near to the Gordons Ford garage.

He was approached by a man, who appeared to have been drinking, and made racist remarks towards the victim.

The man then walked off and returned a short time later with another man. The first man then punched the victim in the face and grabbed his mobile phone from his pocket.

The second man began shouting at the victim and demanded money. He then punched him in the face, knocking him to the floor.

The pair then ran off with the phone in the direction of Wigan town centre. The victim suffered bruising and swelling to his face, but was not seriously injured.

The first man is described as white, aged between 18 and 21, of slim build and around 5ft 2 to 5ft 3. He was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood pulled up.

The second man is described as white, in his 20s, of medium build and around 5ft 5 to 5ft 6. He was wearing a dark hooded top with the hood pulled up.

The pair are believed to be from the Skelmersdale or Liverpool area and spoke with Liverpool accents.

Det Cons Alison Wallwork said: “We believe there may have been several people walking along Wallgate who may have witnessed this attack taking place.

“I would like to ask these people to please get in touch with us if they saw anything or recognise the two people from the CCTV. Your information may be vital to our investigation.”
