Skelmersdale churches enjoy pastoral variety night

ENTERTAINERS performed to a packed crowd for the third annual Pastoral Area Variety Night at St Francis of Assisi School.

The 16 acts who entertained a packed school hall ranged in age from seven to 70 and came from the communities of Skelmersdale, Parbold, Shevington, Orrell, Wrightington, Standish and Up Holland.

The youngest act was Thomas Wharton, who performed a couple of songs from his idol – Elvis!

School head teacher Terry Naylor performed a set of Chuck Berry numbers along with his group.

Proceeds from the variety night go towards helping the Pastoral area raise funds for 18 young people who are going on the Liverpool Archdiocese pilgrimage to Lourdes later in the year.

The youth volunteers help the infirm and sick during this pilgrimage.

The night managed to raise over £1,000 towards the costs of the pilgrimage.

Alan Horridge, one of the organisers, said “We were all amazed at the fantastic talent around the area.

“The number of standing ovations the acts, deservedly, received showed how much the audience enjoyed themselves.

“A great night for all, and over £1,000 raised towards the costs of sending out youth to help the sick.

“All in all, it was a fantastic evening.”
