Call for all party group on Skelmersdale Town Centre

LABOUR councillors want an all-party working group set up to promote the development of the Skelmersdale town centre.

New proposals are currently being worked on by regeneration specialist St Modwen.

Cllr John Fillis, the Labour group leader, said: “This development is important for the whole of West Lancashire and that goes beyond party politics. It’s about confidence, quality, pride and employment.

“Local people have continued to demonstrate their support for a bigger and better Skelmersdale town centre, their aspirations are our aspirations, and working together we will deliver.” A West Lancashire Council spokesman said:

“Councillors will have the opportunity to debate Cllr Fillis’s proposal at the next full council meeting. However it is important to stress that the council has established an all-party Skelmersdale Town Centre group involving members from the borough council (four Conservative and one Labour) and two county councillors. This group will provide a forum for liaison on the project.”
