More council homes in West Lancs to benefit from new kitchens and bathrooms as refit scheme expanded

MORE council houses will benefit from new kitchens and bathrooms after costs for a five-year refit programme were revealed to be lower than expected.

More than 1,300 council houses will get new kitchens and 1,200 new bathrooms after West Lancs council passed through the proposed scheme at a meeting last Wednesday.

A total of £5.8m was allocated from the budget to allow it to begin from January 2013. A report that went before full council had estimated the budget would allow for 918 bathrooms and 850 kitchens to be installed.

But Cllr Adrian Owens revealed that following discussion with tenders the costs were around 25% lower than estimated. A number of homes in Up Holland have now been added to the programme.
