Improvements to Moor Street in Ormskirk and Sandy Lane Car Park in Skelmersdale

WEST Lancashire Borough Council will give residents some New Year cheer by extending Sandy Lane Car Park in Skelmersdale and providing funding for improvements to Moor Street in Ormskirk.

As previously revealed in the Advertiser, the extension of the Sandy Lane Car Park will provide 33 extra spaces and a £63,000 budget has been approved for this project. The extra spaces for the Sandy Lane Car Park will be on the current grass verge area close to the health centre.

£265,000 has been allocated by the Council for the Moor Street scheme which will include putting new paving on the pedestrianised street.

Councillor Martin Forshaw, portfolio holder for Planning and Development, said: “I am delighted that the Council has been able to provide funding for these schemes.

“The improvements to Moor Street will really brighten up this main town centre street and therefore improve facilities for visitors to the town. Sandy Lane car park is always very busy so having the extra spaces will be of great benefit.”

Borough Council officers will be working closely on the Moor Street scheme with colleagues from Lancashire County Council, which is recommending the allocation of additional funding to support the scheme.

More details will emerge in the next few months, but the Council would also look to upgrading the street lighting as part of the scheme together with the removal of any unwanted signs and street furniture, which will help de-clutter the town centre.
