CONTROVERSIAL plans for a new off-licence in Digmoor have been given the green light.
West Lancs licensing sub-committee granted Wshear Dawar’s application for a premises licence at 113 Birleywood.
A total of 96 objections had been lodged by residents and four from traders against the plans, citing concerns of noise nuisance and anti-social behaviour in the area, and the fact there is already an off-licence on Digmoor Parade.
The off-licence will be allowed to sell alcohol from 9.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday and 9.30am to 12.30pm on Sundays. It will be allowed to open at 9am Monday to Saturday.
The sub-committee rubber-stamped a number of conditions requested by police, instructing the store to operate a CCTV system covering all entrances and exits, put in place a policy that anyone who looks under the age of 21 needs to provide ID, and recording any challenges to customers in an incident book.
