A SKELMERSDALE car dealer is backing the town’s disabled football team in their campaign to represent the North West in the Special Olympics.
Skem Men-aces coach Carl Eaton is thrilled with the news that 06 Vauxhall has offered to sponsor the team and help them raise the £6,000 needed to send the players to the competition in August.
Andy Langley, manager at 06 Vauxhall, says that as well as water bottles, football and special goalkeeping gloves, the car dealership will also be donating £10 from every car sale in March to the team.
He said: “Carl’s wife came into the dealership and got talking to one of our salesmen Mark King.
“She told him all about the team and their website and he was so amazed by the commitment of everyone involved that he immediately told me about it.
“I was just as taken aback as him by the team – what they do is unbelievable and have worked so hard to get where they are.
“We wanted to offer our support to them as as we are a community-based dealership, it is important for us to help local people and charities.
“Over the past five weeks, ideas on how to help have been bombing in and are getting more and more progressive.
“We will soon celebrate the launch of our special edition Corsa Limited Skem Men-ace which is red with black alloys – the team’s colours.
“It will also feature the team’s logo and we hope that people driving the car around will help raise awareness and promote the team.”
Carl added: “The support from 06 Vauxhall is one of the best things to ever happen to the team.
“I’m that excited it has been keeping me awake! “Andy and the team have been so supportive and we can’t thank them enough for all they have done.”
