POLICE are appealing for witnesses to provide information following an attack in Skelmersdale.
A 55-year-old local man had been enjoying an evening out with his son and daughter-in-law and was walking home when he was approached on Birleywood by a group of men.
The thugs beat him badly with a wooden weapon – leaving him needing hospital treatment for a broken nose and ribs.
The victim was then kept in Southport hospital for two days while he recovered from his injuries .
The beating happened in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday, August 26, at around 3am.
PC Adam Burke from Skelmersdale Police said: “I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has information about it to come forward and contact the police.
‘‘This is a serious assault and the victim needed to stay in hospital for two days to recover from his injuries. The people responsible need to be caught and brought to justice.”
