SKELMERSDALE’S X Factor hopeful Steph Woods is “devastated” after being knocked out of the hit ITV show over the weekend.
Steph sung her heart out but failed to get through bootcamp – much to her and Sharon Osbourne’s disappoint- ment.
The 20-year-old sung with two other girls and Nicole Scherzinger decided to send Steph home, saying the other girls had stronger voices.
Steph said: “I’m absolutely devastated that my X Factor experience has come to an end.
“I was really really upset and heartbroken as I thought I could go far this year.
“It wasn’t meant to be though and I’ve got to come to terms with it.”
The X Factor has been criticised by fans for its harsh treatment of contestants this year.
Successful contestants were told to take one of six seats on Saturday’s show but some sat down only to be booted off again in favour of another act.
Steph said: “A lot of contestants thought it was really harsh.
“The effort you put into your performance is immense and then when you’re told you have a place you feel an enormous relief.
“To have that taken away from you is horrible, it’s like taking a sweetie away from a child.”
Steph got close to several contestants during her X Factor experience and has tipped Sam Bailey, Kingsland and Melanie McCabe as her favourites to go far in the competition.
Steph said: “I think the standard of performers was extremely high this year.
“I met so many talented people and we all got so close during bootcamp.
“I wish them all the best of luck.”
Despite her X Factor dream being over Steph has vowed to carry on pursuing her singing career and has had hundreds of messages of support from fans.
Steph said: “I’ve had so many people tweeting me and Facebooking me saying they can’t believe I didn’t go through to the judge’s houses.
“Lots of people think the judges made the wrong decision but there’s nothing I can do now.
“Nicole and Sharon were lovely after the show, they both told me not to give up and to keep pushing, so that’s what I’m going to do.
“I’ve got my family, friends and boyfriend behind me.
“I don’t want people to give up on me, watch this space – this isn’t the last you’ll see of me.”
Steph has just returned from a season working as a resort entertainer in a hotel in Gran Canaria where she was recognised by holidaymakers on a regular basis after her TV appearance.
She is now hoping to play gigs across West Lancashire and the rest of the UK to showcase her talent.
