SKELMERSDALE Police arrested seven people last week after dawn raids in the town.
Six men – one aged 24, two aged 29, and three aged 18 – and a 23-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of class B drugs offences as part of Operation Legend – an investigation into organised criminality.
At around 7am last Thursday officers stormed eight addresses in the town in Carfield, Birleywood, Brierfield, Fairhaven, Whitburn, Tintagel and two addresses in Alderley.
They seized tousands of pounds in cash at one of the houses.
The arrests follow similar raids last week in which five people were arrested for drugs offences and later bailed until December, pending further investigation.
Det Ch Insp Andrea Barrow said: “Today’s arrests are part of a long-term and pre- planned operation to disrupt, tackle and prevent criminals from operating in Skelmersdale.
“They follow several months of hard work by our staff who have been targeting organised crime groups in the area and arresting those that are profiting from their criminality.
“The activities of drug dealers can have a dramatic effect on our communities. It can ruin lives, fuel other crime, such as burglary and robbery, and can instil fear in our neighbourhoods and we are determined to tackle that.
“I would like to thank the people of Skelmersdale for their overwhelming support.”
