A CONVENIENCE store owner from Up Holland has been presented with a national award for his retailing skills.
Suresh Patel, owner of Premier Upholland in Dingle Road, and his wife Prem beat off competition from stores across the UK to win the Excellence Award from National Federation of Retail Newsagents commercial director Kieran McDonnell at the NFRN Awards at London’s Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel .
Suresh was presented with the award after being shortlisted in three categories – Independent Magazine Retailer of the Year, Independent Convenience Retailer of the Year and the Independent Off Licence of the Year.
Since taking over the store three years ago, Suresh has worked to ensure it is a focal point of the community, stocking the products and providing the services his customers want.
Turnover has grown consistently year on year, but all the money is ploughed back into the business to ensure it continues to respond to the ever-changing needs of its shoppers.
Suresh said: “It’s a really big achievement to win this award.
“It’s the first time we’ve entered the award and it’s great to be recognised for the hard work we do.
“The ceremony was very plush and posh and we thought it was fantastic.
“Our customers keep coming into the store and congratulating us when they hear we won.
“I think we have a good relationship with our customers and if there’s anything they want that we don’t have I always try my hardest to get it in for them next time.
“We’ve expanded from one unit to two but we’re hoping to expand further in the future so we can offer an even better service.”
