POLICE have confirmed that the man who was found in a burnt-out car in Up Holland last week was 41-year-old Adam Legge.
Police were called shortly before 9am last Wednesday by a dog walker to reports of a burnt-out Ford Focus on a farm track behind Up Holland High School, off Sandbrook Road.
When officers arrived, they made the grim discovery of a badly burnt body in the driver’s seat.
The vehicle was an old-style two-door Focus with five-spoke alloy wheels and a larger than usual exhaust.
The police investigation is ongoing and the death is being treated as unexplained.
However, at this stage, there is not thought to be any third party involvement.
Mr Legge is believed to have lived in Wigan after attending Up Holland high school and then Skelmersdale College.
One man who knew him, John Birch, paid tribute, saying: “I was in the same year as Adam at Up Holland high school, then later I worked with him for a short while in 1996. He was a pretty decent guy back then and was always a polite and well mannered kind of fella.
“It’s just very tragic what has happened to him and my thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”
