ARMED raiders threatened staff and customers in a terrifying daylight post office robbery.
Around 11am last Thursday two thugs, one who was armed with a gun, entered the Sandy Lane Post Office on Westgate, Skelmersdale.
The men threatened staff and customers as they ran into the store leaving people scared and shaken.
They then escaped with an unknown quantity of cash.
Detective Constable Martin Hulme from Skelmersdale CID said: “Fortunately none of the staff or customers were injured but all have been left traumatised by the incident.
“We believe that both offenders were in the vicinity of the post office for some time prior to the offence and I would appeal to anybody that thinks they saw them.
“Any person who witnessed the incident, saw anything suspicious in the vicinity of the post office during the morning of February 13 or has any other information they feel is relevant is asked to call 101 and quote log reference LC-20140213-0463.”
Both men are described as being white and aged in their late teens or early 20s.
One of the men was around 6 feet tall, medium build wearing dark clothing.
The second man was approximately 5’6” to 5’8” tall and of slim build.
Police are currently examining CCTV footage and officers have been completing house to house enquiries since the incident took place. Leaflets have also been distributed to all the local businesses and houses asking for any information.

The popular post office in Westgate has just undergone a major redevelopment and has been made into a new main-style open plan branch with longer opening hours.
