A man has been found dead in the grounds of a church.
The body of Jamie McMahon, 26, who is believed to have been attacked, was discovered by a member of the public yesterday near St Giles Church in Northampton town centre.
A forensic post-mortem examination took place yesterday at Leicester Royal Infirmary, but the cause of Mr McMahon's death remains unclear.
Detective chief inspector Tom Davies, who is leading the investigation, said: "Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Jamie.
"We know that Jamie was in the town centre on the night he died and visited some of the local clubs.
"He was last seen alive in the area of York Road around 2am on Wednesday and was wearing a dark-coloured hoodie, jeans and trainers.
"The motive for the attack on Jamie is unclear, but there is a possibility that the motive may have been robbery."
The officer added: "We want to speak with anyone who was with Jamie, or saw him in the hours before his death."
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101 or the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
