Hindley win with four wickets to spare

Early season defeat for Tarleton

Hindley St Peters vs Tarleton, Saturday May 3

SADACL Premier Division

Hindley St Peters (123-6) beat Tarleton (119 all out) by 4 wickets.

Tarleton slipped to defeat at early season pace setters Hindley St Peters by four wickets at St. Peter's Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Skipper Paul Higham won a fourth successive toss and chose to bat and the visitors reached 85-2 amidst some tight bowling from the home side.

But eight wickets fell for just 34 runs as Muhammed Bilal and Andrew Tickle tore through the Tarleton middle order to bowl out the opposition for an under par 119.

That first innings score never looked enough to secure victory and, despite some accurate bowling from the Tarleton attack, Hindley came out on top with four wickets to spare.

Phil Moorfield top-scored with 34, while Chris Buck claimed figures of 3-21 from 10.3 overs.

Meanwhile, Tarleton second XI kept up an unbeaten start to the 2014 but had to settle for a third consecutive draw as the batsmen piled on the runs at Carr Lane.

Nick Astley (80 not out) and David Huyton (82 not out) helped the home side amass 221 for 2, but Southport Trinity replied with 194-5 to secure a draw with Jimmy Haynes (54 not out) and Mike Nolan (53) hitting half centuries.

In the Leyland Trophy, Tarleton 3rd XI crashed to a heavy defeat at local rivals Hesketh Bank.

Set 180 for victory, Tarleton crashed to 54 all out as Jonathan Marquis took 5-7.
