With Mawdesley first team’s game against Vernon Carus abandoned without a ball being bowled, the focus switched to the second XI game at local rivals Rufford.

Jay Bethell’s side batted first and amassed a total of 167-6 in 45 overs in tricky batting conditions.

Steve Dunn lead the way with an impressive 53, his first half century of the season.

There were further useful contributions from Martin Lewis (31) & Bethell (23).

Louis Rothwell was the spearhead of the bowling attack, picking up four wickets to add to his impressive return this term which now stands at 65 dismissals for the club.

The Rufford batsmen had little answer to the Mawdesley bowling unit and were skittled out for 35 to seal a 132 run victory. The maximum points victory moves Mawdesley six clear of nearest challengers Ingol and, with a game in hand, the Division 6 title is now theirs to lose. They host Wyre at home next Saturday and could secure promotion.
