A hat trick from Danny Lonorgan put Scarisbrick Hall third in the table, after they won 4-1 against Portugal United FC at Sandbrook Road, Ainsdale.
With Scarisbrick going into this game on the back of two defeats, they needed a performance to get their promotion aspirations back on track.
Scarisbrick were out of the traps with lightening quick reactions, forcing Portugal United into conceding a corner in the opening seconds.
The resulting corner from Jack Medlicott searching out the powerful leap of Craig Langley towering over the Portugal United defence, to thunder home a header from close range, Scarisbrick 1-0 up within the first minute.
The Scarisbrick defence stood firm under the leadership of Capitan Darren Clifford and the covering of David Jones at right-back despite the sustained possession Portugal were able to forge.
With time left in the first half, Scarisbrick surged forward forcing a throw-in deep in their opponent’s territory, the ball thrown long by David Jones, picking out a Scarisbrick head to flick on toDanny Lonorgan.
The ball coming to him at an awkward height, he was able to re-adjust with an emphatic overhead kick eclipsing that on Phil Roberts just two weeks earlier to double their lead with the ball nestling into the corner of the net.
The second half kicked off with Scarisbrick pushing for the decisive third goal, which would put the tie to bed.
As Scarisbrick continued to press, they were caught out as they pushed too many players up.
Portugal broke away quickly cutting out the Scarisbrick midfield, the striker baring down on goal, Tom Soffe rushing out before the ball was placed goalwards, with his accompanying stike partner following up to force the ball in from close range.
Portugal hopes didn't last long with Scarisbrick’s in-form striker harrying the Portugal backline. Danny Lonrgan was slipped through on goal just minutes after Scarisbrick were pegged back, he danced around the Portugal keeper with his quick feet, and put the ball into the empty net.
With 10 minutes left, Danny Lonorgan finished Portugal off and completed his hat-trick in the process, again breaking into the area beating the Portugal keeper and fending off the defenders at close quarters to score and round off a clinical display, as Scarisbrick Hall FC continue to push for promotion.
