Tarleton lost on route 66

Heavy defeat for Tarleton at hands of Westleigh

SADACL Premier Division

Westleigh (268 all out) beat Tarleton (66 all out) by 200 runs

TARLETON first XI fell to their heaviest defeat of the season after being skittled out for just 66 at Westleigh on Saturday.

The hosts elected to bat first on one of the hottest days of the year, aided by a short boundary to one side and a lightning fast outfield.

Robert Entwistle made best use of the conditions but fell agonisingly short of his first ever century, scoring a superb 99.

Openers Daniel Galvin (32) and Nick Sykes (25) laid the platform for the big total.

The hosts, with the recent memory that Tarleton successfully chased 218 down to win the reverse fixture after a declaration, were feeling no such generosity this time.

The efforts of Chris Buck (3-81) and Jamie Tabord (3-43), ensured that Tarleton at least claimed a full complement of bowling points, as Westleigh ended on 268 all out.

There were to be no more points however, as brothers Robert and Jonathan Entwistle ripped through the Tarleton top order to leave the visitors no chance of pulling off an unlikely run chase.

Jonathan finished with superb figures of 7-33 as only 2 Tarleton players reached double figures.

Tarleton take on Norley Hall next Saturday, with just 4 points separating the sides in 8th and 9th place respectively.

Meanwhile at Carr Lane, there was better news as both Tarleton 2nd and 3rd XI’s won their league fixtures.

The 2nd XI beat Mossley Hill by 125 runs. Batting first, Tarleton slipped to 86-5 before half centuries from Ash Eminson (74) and Jake Abram (53 not out) lifted the hosts to 223-6 declared.

The bowlers then did the business as Mossley Hill were bowled out for 98.

Kwik Cricket for ages 7 and above and Under 11 sessions take place on Saturday mornings from 9am to 10am and 10am to 11.30am respectively.

Under 13 sessions are on Friday evenings from 6:30pm to 8pm, whilst Under 15, Under 18 and Senior net practices are on Thursdays at the same time.
