Sheppard's quick off the mark

Darland professional starts well at Knott End

An eagle helped Mark Sheppard to get off to a flying start in the PGA in Lancs pro-am at Knott End.

The Darland professional holed his approach shot to the par four first which helped him on his way to a one-under 68 in breezy conditions.

His card revealed a trio of birdies and four bogeys and he won by two strokes.

Swinton Park’s David Smith, fighting fit after recovering from a shoulder injury, and Houghwood’s Barry Taylor tied second on 70.

Meanwhile, Taylor moved to within 124 points of Mossock Hall’s David Shacklady in the Order of Merit.
