Despite some atrocious weather conditions the third Annual Jonathan Skofic Invitational Sevens Tournament was held at Tarleton RUFC on Saturday. The event this year attracted 21 teams over three levels and even though the early round matches were played in tropical downpours the standard of rugby on show was awesome.
The sun came out for the final part of the proceedings and the semi-finals and finals at all levels enthralled and entertained the crowds.
The Social Competition was won by Hutton RUFC who beat Wath RUFC and the Open Competition was won for the third year on the trot by a Skofic Select Team who beat Calavera Red Panda Sevens in the final.
The Elite Final was contested by two newcomers to the competition and Sandbach ran out winners in a great match to take the £1000 first prize against RGC 1404 from Colwyn Bay.
Teams from Southport, Waterloo, Hull, Durham, North Wales, Sandbach, Preston Grasshoppers, Runshaw and Myerscough College showcased how rugby Sevens should be played and why it is possibly one of the fastest growing spectator sports over the last few years. have a look at the Facebook page Skofic Rugby Sevens.
