Tarleton win as Haydock are left in the stalls

Second XI held to draw in rain soaked match

Tarleton (83-5) beat Haydock (82 all out) by 5 wickets

Tarleton first XI beat the weather and the opposition on Saturday, running out 5 wicket victors over Haydock at Lyme Park.

After winning the toss and electing to field first, skipper Paul Higham was worried as the hosts raced to 46-1 after 8 overs.

But Craig Aspinall took 5-33 and Jamie Tabord 3-31 as Haydock dramatically collapsed to 82 all out in just 29.1 overs.

Only Ian Brown made double figures for Haydock, the opening batsman smashed a quickfire 34 before becoming Aspinall’s second victim.

Tarleton made hard work of the run chase as Haydock claimed 5 wickets, although the result was never in any serious doubt.

Higham made 23 and opener Dave Thompson 16 as Tarleton, who remain 8th in the Premier Division, increased the gap to the relegation places to 26 points and closed the gap on 7th placed Dalton to 5 points.

Meanwhile, at Carr Lane, Tarleton second XI were held to a draw in a rain affected match against Earlestown.

Batting first, Tarleton made 191-6 declared, as 17-year-old Jack Langton made an unbeaten 56 and captain Sam Wilkinson 42.

In reply, Earlestown batted 48 overs and reached 83-7 to secure a draw and limit Tarleton to 13 points.

Nick Aspinall took two wickets.

Tarleton always welcomes new members of all ages and abilities.

Kwik Cricket for ages 7 and above and Under 11 sessions take place on Saturday mornings from 9 - 10am and 10 - 11.30am respectively.

Under 13 sessions are on Friday evenings from 6.30-8pm, whilst Under 15, Under 18 and Senior net practices are on Thursdays at the same time.
