The Open Championship’s international flavour will extend to the junior ranks as West Lancashire Golf Club hosts the Junior Open Championship from July 14 to 16.
Contested every two years since 1994, the Junior Open is traditionally held on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Open Championship week at a golf course near the Open venue.
This year, many of golf’s brightest up-and-coming junior golfers from all over the world will descend on the Mersesyside links for three days of competition.
R & A affiliates from across the globe are invited to send one male and/or one female golfer under the age of 16 to compete in the event.
The 2012 competition at Fairhaven Golf Club attracted participation from 68 countries. The winner was 16 year old, Asuka Kashiwabara of Japan, who provided a record breaking performance with a final tally of 206, 16-under-par.
Representing England will be West Lancashire’s own Hollie Muse, (14) and Michael Gilbert (13) from Chelmsford Golf Club.
West Lancashire Golf Club looks forward to welcoming visitors to this event and admission to the course and clubhouse is free.
Whilst enjoying refreshments, visitors can take in the spectacular views of the Mersey Estuary from the balcony of their modern clubhouse.
The golf course is situated adjacent to Hall Road Station on the Northern Line. There is a large, private, secure car park and is approximately a 20 minute drive from Liverpool City Centre.
