Bandits wrap up the title

Champions crowned with game to go

Botanic Bandits - (back row left to right) Matthew Greenwood, Fergal Wright, Kyle Dawes, Adam Wood (front row left to right) Emily Clare, Harvey Wright, Jamie Sumner and Luke Dawes. Other juniors who have played in the team this season but were unavailable of Saturday are Safwan Patel, Connor Peake and Lewis Rose.

The latest round of matches in the West Lancs and Sefton Junior Bowls League saw the Botanic Bandits crowned as league champions for the second year in succession.

However, the Bandits did not have everything their own way when they visited Formby Sports and Social.

The singles saw honours even with each team winning two games.

Anthony Lewin’s result for Formby was perhaps the pick of the day as he demolished Lancashire player, Fergal Wright, 21-10.

Luke Sinott was the other winner for Formby as he overcame Jamie Sumner 21-13.

Matty Greenwood did well to reply for the Bandits with a 21-13 win over Cameron Wright and Kyle Dawes evened it up by beating Phil Rawlins 21-12.

In the pairs games the spoils were also shared, with Adam Wood and Harvey Wright winning 21-12 for the Bandits, but Joseph Jones and Jack Clivery winning 21-20 for Formby.

However, the one point earned for the draw was enough to earn the Botanic Bandits the League title for 2014.

In the other match the Windmill Destroyers visited the tricky Burscough Cricket Club green.

Jack Denning was the only winner for the Destroyers in the singles, with Elise Mills, Jess Hodge and Laura Callaghan all getting good wins for the Burscough warriors.

In the pairs Laura and Jess wrapped up the home win for the Warriors, beating Natasha Hauley and Lily Copeland 21-12.

Jake Hauley on his debut and Emma Denning restored dome pride for the Destroyers with a 21-17 victory.
