Free festive fun in Skelmersdale

Christmas is coming up fast and the countdown to the big day starts this Friday, November 16, with a new event from West Lancashire Borough Council in partnership with the Ecumenical Centre in Skelmersdale.
The Festive Family Fun event will be held in the Ecumenical Centre between 3pm - 5pm. and provide a variety of  Christmas entertainment to suit all ages to put you in the festive spirit and act as a precursor to the Concourse switch on event later that evening.
The festive celebrations will start at 3pm with a short Carol Service, conducted by the new Church Minister, Reverend Rik Preston. During this the Mayor will be delivering his Christmas address; accompanying music will be provided by members of Skelmersdale Prize Brass Band.
Christmas Carols and Festive songs will follow as Cobbs Brow County Primary School, Skelmersdale Community Singers and Ormskirk Ukulele Club all add their unique styles to the Christmas programme. What better accompaniment for your mince pie which will be available free of charge.
If you want something extra special for someone close to you the ‘Crafty Crafters’ from Birch Green Community Centre will be on hand to help you create your own glittering festive card. There will also be opportunity to win a prize or buy a gift for someone special at the traditional Charity Stalls.
There’s plenty for the kids too as the ever popular children’s entertainer ‘Fun Steve,’ (Steve Mc.Ginnigle),  will be on walk about throughout the afternoon spreading fun and Christmas Cheer to  build the anticipation for the Festive period.
Councillor David Sudworth, West Lancashire Borough Council’s portfolio holder for Leisure said: “we are thrilled to be working in partnership with the Ecumenical Centre to provide a festive event building up to Christmas.
“We wanted to create something that will bring the community together and build the festive spirit in support of the Concourse switch-on event later in the evening. This will be a great fun day that will really get the Christmas spirit ringing.”
