Run with Rudolph for the Lancashire Defibrillator Campaign

IF you’re looking for something seasonal to do with the family this weekend, how about joining Rudolph at his Christmas training camp at Edge Hill University?

The annual Ormskirk Rudolph Run is open to families of all ages with a variety of races, including the main, ‘5K race for all’ and the Emergency Services ‘Defibrillator relay’. All the major Emergency Services including Police and Fire Service will be there, together with familiar faces like Fireman Sam and the Paramedic Pups from North West Air Ambulance. There will also be face painting, costume competitions and a host of other fun things to help Rudolph get fit for his Christmas deliveries with Santa!

The entry fee will help to raise money for the Lancashire Defibrillator Campaign -to provide public access defibrillators, helping to save lives in the West Lancashire area. As well as the Mayoress of West Lancashire’s charity, supporting North West Air Ambulance and West Lancashire Scouts.

You can sign up at www.edgehill.ac.uk/edgehillsport where you can also download a sponsorship form. Runners are being encouraged to raise money for any charity of their choice, and can dress in reindeer costumes and antlers to get into the Christmas spirit. The entry fee for the fundraiser will be £5 per person or £10 for families.

Mark Evans, North West Ambulance Service Community Resuscitation Development Manager said: “Around 30,000 people suffer cardiac arrest outside hospital every year and for every minute sooner a person receives treatment, their chance of survival increases by 14%.  The Defibrillator Relay will be a lot of fun, however on a serious note we really want to get the message across to as many members of the public as possible just how important it is to act quickly when a cardiac arrest occurs”.

With a staggering 30% of sufferers dying before reaching the hospital, defibrillators can not only save lives, but reduce the risk of any long lasting damage caused by cardiac arrest.
If you can help raise vital funds, save lives and have lots of seasonal fun with the family, pop along to the annual ‘Ormskirk Rudolph Run’ on November 25 from 11am-2pm at Edge Hill University, Saint Helens Road, Ormskirk, Lancashire, L39 4QP, 01695 575 171.
