Mutch happy to be taking over

NEW Burscough boss Andy Mutch has revealed his joy at being given the opportunity to manage at Victoria Park.

In another dramatic week for the Blue Square North outfit, 44-year-old Mutch was ushered into the Linnets hotseat on Monday following the sensational sacking of Joey Dunn.

After only three days in charge of the West Lancashire side, former Vauxhall Motors manager Mutch told the Advertiser that he is relishing the job and is fully confident the side can maintain their Blue Square North status.

Mutch also indicated that changes to the playing squad were inevitable as he looks to stamp his own mark on the Linnets, starting with a quickly-arranged friendly on Saturday at home to Caernarfon Town (11am kick-off).

“I am delighted to have got the job and am looking forward to it very much. Having talked to the board and Chris Lloyd about the plans for the club and knowing what they want, everything looks encouraging.

“I have watched Burscough a couple of times this season and I know that there has been a lot of upheaval. The manager went, a lot of players went so it was very tough for the previous manager.

“There are a lot of young boys in the squad, playing in a league that is getting tougher by the year. All of the boys seem to be enthusiastic and very keen, there is a good spirit about them.”

In Joey Dunn’s time as manager, the squad continually evolved as the club looked to rebuild following the exodus of players to Southport.

Now with Mutch becoming Burscough’s third manager in the space of four months, the personnel changes are set to continue.

He added: “There will be no money to spend so I will be doing some wheeling and dealing. I know players on the scene but will not rush into anything.

“The plans from the board and myself are to improve the situation on and off the field in a pragmatic way, slowly but surely. Some clubs are in leagues they shouldn’t be but there is no reason why Burscough shouldn’t be in this one.

“The fans should know that I am very much a footballing man who likes to play football. I want the lads to enjoy their football and hopefully I can get my philosophies across.”
