ANDY Mutch has sensationally stepped down as manager of Blue Square North Burscough FC this afternoon.

Following a meeting between the club's board of directors, Mutch has agreed to leave his position in charge of the Linnets.

Chris Myers, who had recently been appointed the club's community development officer, has taken over as caretaker manager for the remaining three games of the season.

Burscough official Nick Kileen confirmed the announcement to the Advertiser at 2:30pm this afternoon and confirmed they will be advertising for a new manager in due course.

Andy Mutch said: "It has all been very tight and if the truth be known we would have to win all three of our remaining games and rely on other people not to pick up points.  If I am honest there was a certain amount of inevitability about it.  We have had a tough run for whatever reason but I want to thank everybody for supporting me at the club, it was very important.

"I want to thank the players for all their time, effort and commitment whilst I have been manager but the club has to move on now.

"At the end of the day they employed me to do a job and we have not staved off relegation.  Maybe they want a different voice."
