Burscough beaten 3-0 at AFC Telford

AFC Telford Utd 3

HARD as Burscough worked at the Bucks Head Stadium, they struggled to make any real impact against a well organised and play-offs bound team, writes Neil Leatherbarrow.

After going a goal down at an early stage, The Linnets did not possess the punch to break through a solid home defence, before they were finally sunk by goals in the 50th and 52nd minutes, despite having an equal share of the possession.

The game could not have started much worse for Burscough, an error by the usually highly consistent Brian Moogan giving Telford the lead in the sixth minute. The ball was played long and high down the right, whether it was the floodlights or a lapse of concentration is unclear, but Moogan let the ball go instead of applying a relatively simple header, thus the ball ran through to Danny Carey-Bertram, who cut inside and slammed the ball past Kyle Clancy from a tight angle.

In the 27th minute Burscough went close, Moogan firing a free-kick into the box and just failing to find Ryan Wade, who probably only required to connect to score.

In the 31st minute a poor back header from home full-back Lee Vaughan gave away a corner from which Ryan Young was forced to save well under his crossbar, before Young saved by the foot of the post as another Moogan free-kick threatened.

The half was not a feast of football, although, Burscough had taken the game to Telford for long periods.

Soon after the interval Wade shot wide from 25 yards, however, at the other end Telford showed Burscough just how to find the net.
