BURSCOUGH FC boss Andy Gray insists captain marvel Brian Moogan is still a Linnets player.
The skipper had been subject to reports this week linking him with a move to Blue Square North side Vauxhall Motors.
Rumours suggested a deal had been struck for Moogan to seal a return to the Motasisst Arena, but Gray has revealed he is only talking to Carl MacAuley’s side at present.
Gray was adamant his captain remains with the Greens, for the time being at least, and says he would love to have him lead his troops next season.
However, the new Burscough manager admits with the club uncertain as to which league they will be playing in next season, it has been difficult to tie players down.
But, after just two weeks in the Victoria Park hot seat, Gray has managed to capture his first signing of the summer, bringing in goalkeeper Zak Jones.
Gray said: “Brian is speaking to Vauxhall but as we speak he is still our player.
“Is he someone I would like to keep? Massively, but with the uncertainty at the moment it is difficult.
“We have brought in Zak at the end of last week. He is a former pro at Blackburn Rovers and spent time on loan at Southampton. He played for me last season at Prescot and did really well.
“I see Zak as someone to provide competition to Kyle Clancy to be our number one next season.
“I have been manager for two weeks now and am very much enjoying it so far.”
Burscough have added a fixture at UniBond First Division North side Clitheroe to their pre-season schedule.
The game at the Shawbridge ground takes place on Saturday July 25, kick off 3pm.
