Burscough manager Andy Gray’s target trouble

BURSCOUGH manager Andy Gray admits he faces a tough task in signing his main transfer targets this summer, writes Phil Kirkbride.

With the Linnets confirmed as a UniBond Premier Division side last week, Gray has been able to step up his efforts to build a squad for the 2009/10 season.

The Greens’ boss believes the club could be fighting it out with sides such as Marine for local players but says the history of Burscough could work in his favour.

The Victoria Park club have been heavily linked with a move for Skelmersdale United star Thomas Moore but Gray insisted any official deal had yet to be struck.

Gray said: “We now know which league we will be in next season and that helps massively - we know we are staying in the UniBond, no ifs and buts.

“I have spoke to a lot of players and am hopeful they will join us. The league AGM is this weekend, the signing-on forms should be out after that - I just can’t wait to get them signed.

“I want to bring in my own type of player, the problem is they are probably every other manager’s type of player.

“Obviously the name and history of Burscough will help and I will do everything I can to promote the club.”

However Gray will be without last season’s captain Brian Moogan who has signed for Blue Square North outfit Vauxhall Motors.

Gray admitted his disappointment but fully understood Moogan’s desire to play at a higher level.

He added: “I applaud Brian’s decision to leave to play higher level football because every player should want to play as high as possible. If we had stayed in the Blue Square North then it might have made Brian’s decision to stay or not much easier.”
