Burscough FC looking for change in fortunes following another defeat

BURSCOUGH’S miserable 2009-10 campaign continued on Tuesday night when they exited from the UniBond League Challenge Cup.

And just 88 fans were at Victoria Park to see visitors Kendal Town inflict a disappointing 2-0 defeat on Andy Gray’s team.

After a bright start, the Linnets have endured a largely forgettable campaign which has seen them drop to 15th in the UniBond League Premier Division.

More significantly, they have played three or four games more than the teams around them at the wrong end of the table and so face the prospect of dropping further towards the relegation zone should those sides benefit from their matches in hand.

Burscough have recorded just six wins in their 21 league matches to date and have not won in the competition since a 3-0 triumph over Worksop Town back on October 24.

Gray will clearly be hoping for a reverse of fortunes this Saturday when the Linnets entertain the same midweek visitors, Kendal Town, in a UniBond League Premier Division game (kick-off 3pm).

The Cumbrians lie seventh in the table with 30 points from their 16 matches to date. They are 12 points behind league leaders Retford United but have six games in hand on the Nottinghamshire team and Burscough will certainly be in for another tough match.
