Linnets sweat on Cummins fitness

BURSCOUGH will have to assess the fitness of star striker Niall Cummins after he wad forced off in the draw with Cammell Laird.

The former AFC Blackpool frontman has only recently returned from the sidelines and scored two goals in three games this week for Derek Goulding’s men.

A double on Saturday helped the Linnets to an upset win over Garforth Town in the preliminary round of the FA Trophy before he kick-started Burscough’s fightback against Lairds on Tuesday. Cummins has now scored five goals for the Greens this season and as Goulding prepares his side for the weekend’s trip to high-flying Ossett Town, he will hope his top scorer is fit enough to make the trip.

Liam Caddick’s 72nd minute strike completed Burscough’s comeback in midweek and leaves them with five points from their four Evo-Stik First Division North games.

Burscough had been stunned by two goals in a minute from their Wirral visitors who took the lead through Lewis McNally and Jamie Henders.

The game at Victoria Park also marked the debut of Liam Duff who joined the club this week.

Weekend opponents Ossett have made an good start to the league season, picking up 11 points from their six matches and head into the game with Burscough fourth in the table.
