DEREK GOULDING believes Burscough are to face the sternest possible test this weekend.
The Linnets welcome title chasing Trafford to Victoria Park on Saturday with Goulding holding the Manchester side in the highest of esteem.
The Burscough boss reckons Trafford are as strong as Evo-Stik First Division North leaders Skelmersdale United.
Goulding’s men earned a point against Trafford earlier in the season, drawing 0-0 at Shawe View, and he says they must be prepared for another gruelling afternoon.
Burscough head into the game 12th in the table.
“This is a massively hard game for us,” he said.
“I was very impressed with them when we went down there earlier in the season.
“We have played every side in the league this season, apart from Prescot Cables, and I believe Trafford are as strong as Skem.”
Goulding heads into the game with doubts over the fitness of Jordan Williams and Phil Quirk who were suffering from illness earlier in the week.
But captain Chris Tyson came through Monday’s Doodson Sport Cup second round tie with Curzon Ashton unscathed.
Goulding’s men lost the game 2-0.
“It was a reasonable performance,” said Goulding.
“It wasn’t the worst but it wasn’t the best. When you play sides such as Curzon Ashton then the games are always going to be quite evenly matched.
“Perhaps we should’ve started a little better but sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
“There was not much in the game and so there was not anything alarmingly disappointing about it.
“They scored the second goal from a set-piece but up until that point we had been on top in the second half.”
