WEST Lancashire racer, Sean Huyton, continued to impress in his debut car racing season in the fifth and sixth rounds of the Ginetta Cars Texaco Havoline Championship at the Scottish track Knockhill.
After securing solid results at Rockingham two weeks ago, the 19-year-old recovered from a terrible qualifying session to keep up the points haul for the championship at the latest British GT Championship meeting last weekend.
The Aughton-based star, racing under the Academy Motorsport banner, had the worst qualifying session of the season so far when on the opening lap the gearbox broke down resulting in Sean not being able to post a time; this resulted in Sean having to start both races from the back of the grid.
In the first race Sean carved his way up the field and was in fifth place, when the chequered flag came out after a sensational drive.
The second race was much like the first with Sean having to fight his way through the field which resulted in him being involved in a 3-way battle for fourth place. With a last lap move Sean went from sixth to fifth to end a great recovery from a disappointing qualifying.
Sean had the pace to challenge for a place on the podium, but with such bad luck in qualifying it resulted in him using his pace to get through the field instead of qualifying well and using his pace to fight amongst the front runners.
Sean said: “I’m very pleased to have secured two solid results, though obviously disappointed not to finish on the podium.
“It was tricky having to get through the field from the back of the grid, but I stayed out of trouble and managed to recover a good points haul.
“I would like to say a big thank you to the team for getting the car fixed for both races on the Sunday and Mark Wania for letting me use the car. I’d also like to thank all the people who made the long journey north of the border for their uplifting and continued support.”
