AUGHTON met top of the table Birkdale on Saturday and put in a tremendous effort despite defeat.

Matt Peterson beat a Carlos Hollyman 7-5, 4-1.

David Johnson beat Craig Laverty 4 -0, 4-0, Matthew Johnson beat Adam Ranson 4-2, 4-1 then Danny Pugh was involved in an almighty battle with Nick Hale eventually going down 4-5, 4-5.

Going into the doubles they needed to win both matches to draw but Peterson and Laverty couldn’t get going and lost 3-6 to Hollyman and Johnson, then performance of the morning came from Pugh and Ranson who brushed Hale and Johnson aside with a 6-2 victory.
