BURSCOUGH edged past Wakefield in a scrappy FA Trophy second qualifying round encounter at Victoria Park.
Burscough went ahead in the 19th minute when Darren Brookfield chipped a pass on the edge of the box for Liam Caddick to chest down and fire in to the back of the net.
The Linnets doubled their lead just before half-time when Caddick found himself clear on goal and chipped the ball over Bennett.
The Yorkshire visitors replied on 57th minutes when Jassim Alali lobbed Horn the referee overruled the assistant’s offside flag to award the goal.
Burscough restored their two goal lead five minutes later when Louis Mayers stabbed home from close range.
Dave Pickering thundered home a long range strike for Wakefield but it wasn’t enough and the 2003 winners progressed into the next round of the FA Trophy.
