LAST Saturday, despite the inclement weather, Nethermoss Archers held its dual Indoors Monthly Handicap and British Archer Postal (BA) shoot.
The Round shot is called a Portsmouth Round consisting of shooting five dozen arrows at 20 yards three arrows at a time.
The club’s Junior Girl archer Heather Hughes (11), who has only been shooting since last June won the Handicap Shoot shooting her personal best score of 428. This was a fantastic achievement in such a short space of time. A testament to her dedication and skills and the quality of coaching she has been receiving from club members.
Second place was taken by another newcomer to the sport who started with Heather – Claire Gallagher.
Third place was taken by a longbow archer, Jim Blakeley.
The overall standard of shooting was high with 18-year-old Jack Grogan achieving the highest score of the day posting 574.
However, the handicap ratings only gave him 11th position overall.
Team members to represent the club in the BA Postal shoot are selected from the highest scores on the day.
Nethermoss Archers sent in four separate category scores – two for Recurve Bows, one for Recurve Juniors and one for Compound archers.
Unfortunately, only two out of the maximum three Compound archers were represented. Therefore, with such a low team score, they are not expected to win their BA Round.
