Burscough FC captain Chris Tyson explains why he turned down Skelmersdale United move

CHRIS TYSON has revealed he turned down a move to Skelmersdale United in order to achieve his ambitions with Burscough.

The 31-year-old midfielder was the subject of a transfer move from the Evo-Stik First Division North leaders last week, as they looked to bolster their squad for their promotion charge.

But after discussions with Skem boss Tommy Lawson, the former Bootle man has pledged his future to the Linnets. He captained Derek Goulding’s side in their 3-1 defeat at Ramsbottom United on Tuesday

“I just felt there was no need to up sticks at this point,” said Tyson. “I’m happy at Burscough, I’m settled, so why change things now?

“It’s a great bunch of lads, I get on well with the manager and the coach, so everything is good here.

“I won’t lie, it was flattering to have the team that is top of the league wanting to sign you. I spoke to Tommy and he was straight with me, he told me Skem were an ambitious club and explained where he saw me fitting in to his side.

“But the grass isn’t always greener. I have a good thing here at Burscough, and I’m happy to be staying.”

Tyson hopes his own commitment may help encourage others at Burscough to follow his lead.

He said: “There are a few players here that I’m sure clubs will be looking at, but if we can stick together I think we can achieve something at the club.

“This season is about consolidation now, but there’s no reason we can’t look to next season and be positive.”

Burscough will be without Darren Brookfield for their weekend trip to Farsley. The winger is likely to miss three weeks with a hamstring strain.
