FORMER Maricourt High School pupil and Welsh U20 basketball international, Danny Walsh, returned to give Year 9 and Year 10 boys a coaching session.
The 18-year-old led the youngsters in a warm-up, through some shooting drills and into fun games, as he helped promote basketball to the students. Afterwards, the Sefton Stars’ record points scorer presented one of his international vests to headteacher Bernard McLoughlin, for display. Danny, currently studying at Manchester Metropolitan University for a career in the sports industry, is doing well for his country. He has already won an U16 Euro Basket bronze medal in San Marino, captained the U18s at Euro Basket 2013 and, in 2011, top scored against England with 38 points. In 2012, he was second in Great Britain in a three-point shooting competition and in October made his debut for the Wales senior reserve team in Dublin.
