BURSCOUGH manager Derek Goulding will have been happy with his side’s performance as they kept a clean sheet and put themselves back into contention for a top half place in the Evo-Stik First Division North table.
The Linnets' roller-coaster season continued on Saturday and Burscough fans will be hoping that this result is a turning point, as they ran out 2-0 winners at Mossley.
Goulding was forced to field what was a patched up back four that only contained one natural centre back. Despite this the Linnets defence shored up well against the early storm from the hosts, with Tim Horn making a brilliant save when Richard Bennett tried his luck from long range.
Mossley continued to have the possession but failed to do anything with it in terms of chances from that point, and in the 31st minute they were made to pay.
Michael Brown managed to shake off a Lilywhites defender and rifle a 25 yard thunderbolt into the top corner to give Burscough the lead.
Brown had a chance to get his brace as he beat the offside trap and shot with the outside of his foot, but Mossley's Christian Thewlis was equal to it and produced a great save.
Burscough weathered a brief resurgence from the home side in the early stages of the second half but with the Mossley attackers misfiring, Burscough found confidence and began to press up the pitch.
In the 72nd minute it was arguably game over.
The Linnets doubled their lead when Mossley's lack of communication saw the home side's keeper initially run off his line to meet James Short's long ball forward. Luke Robinson got to the ball first however as the Mossley stopper comically began to backtrack and was too far out to stop Robinson's low drive into the bottom corner.
Robinson had a chance to score again minutes later but this time his low shot just dragged wide. The Linnets comfortably saw out a final Mossley chance in the dying seconds to earn Tim Horn his clean sheet and put the Greens back on the winning trail.
