SKELMERSDALE United striker Neil Robinson is believed to have created a new post-war record on Tuesday night when he picked up his Lancashire Co-operative Challenge Trophy winners’ medal, writes Phil Kirkbride.
The 28-year-old striker won the competition for the fourth consecutive year, with this third different club in midweek, following triumphs with Burscough and Southport twice and now the Lancashire FA think Robinson has created history.
Signed from the Sandgrounders in February of this year, Robinson started in Skem’s 2-1 extra-time win over Radcliffe Borough at the Lancashire FA headquarters in Leyland.
Robinson first lifted the trophy in the 2005/06 season when Southport beat Lancaster City 1-0 thanks to Liam Blakeman’s goal on April 4, he repeated the trick with Burscough a year later when the Linnets beat Marine 2-1.
Following a return to Port, Robinson scored a hat-trick of cup wins when Southport beat Chorley 4-1 on April 2, with the striker laying on the first goal.
John Guilfoyle of the Lancashire FA said: “Looking at the records it looks like Neil Robinson has set a new record in the modern era of the cup.”
l Can you confirm Robinson has set a new record or do you know of another player who can better Robinson’s record of four consecutive Lancashire FA Co-op Challenge Trophy wins?
