Skelmersdale United FC manager says his side have two massive games ahead of the if they are to win the UniBond First Division title
SKELMERSDALE United have the UniBond First Division North title in their sights but must overcome two “massive, massive” games according to manager Tommy Lawson.
Tonight, Skem welcome Newcastle Blue Star to the Skem and Ormskirk College Stadium before a trip to Curzon Ashton on Saturday in their final league fixture of the season where they could land the championship.
Currently second in the division, one point behind Durham City but with a game in hand, Lawson’s men are in a great position to secure automatic promotion to the UniBond Premier Division.
Skem are on a nine game winning streak following wins over tonight’s opponents Blue Star, 4-0 and then Salford City, 4-1 on Tuesday night.
But true to form, the United boss remained grounded ahead of the run-in though admitted the mood in the camp is as good as it has ever been.
He said: “We have set ourselves such a big target this season and the lads have responded particularly well.
“There have been big asks but we have come through them.
“We have only conceded one goal in the last five games and have been able to say “same again” when it comes to team selection which has really helped.
