SKELMERSDALE UNITED boss Tommy Lawson says title rivals Mossley are merely keeping top spot warm for them.
United welcome the league leaders to West Lancashire this weekend knowing victory will take them back to the Evo-Stik First Division North summit.
Mossley have held the lead for some time as Skem’s league programme took a back seat as they made progress in a number of cup competition, including the FA Trophy.
Nevertheless Lawson’s men have remained in touch at the top and now head into the weekend knowing they can reclaim the lead.
“They are minding it for us,” Lawson said of top spot.
“Mossley know we are behind them and softly, softly we have been catching them.
“They have been top of the league for quite some time but we have been more than happy to let them stay there.”
Only two points behind Mossley, Skem have six games in hand so Lawson says there is no pressure on his side to win this weekend.
However, he believes the onus is all on the leaders.
“Mossley have got to come and express themselves and win the game,” he said.
“No ifs or buts, they have got to win the game. A draw is no good to me and so the emphasis will be on Mossley to come out and play and come out and win the game.”
Lawson will be able to include Sean McCartney in his squad for Saturday.
The right-sided defender joined from Welsh side Airbus UK a couple of weeks ago but was awaiting international clearance.
