Ormskirk CC experienced highs and lows over the weekend

TWO wins and a narrow defeat meant Ormskirk suffered mixed fortunes over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Adam Waterhouse’s men progressed to the next round of the Lancashire Knockout after a hard fought victory away at Farnworth last Thursday before beating Northern by eight wickets in the league on Monday.

Unfortunately for the Blue & Gold, these two performances were split by a disappointing one wicket loss at home to Wallasey.

Matt Glayzer (49 and 60) and Matt Morgan (45 and 60 not out) found form with the bat while Phil Armstrong marked his return to first team action with a match-winning six wicket haul at Northern.

The defending champions’ stuttering league form means they have slipped to sixth place in the Liverpool & District Cricket Competition Premier League, 71 points behind pace-setters Bootle.

On Saturday, Ormskirk had made a positive start after Waterhouse won the flip of the coin, and elected to bat.

Matt Glayzer and Morgan were supported by John Armstrong (39) in posting 171, although the home side lost their final seven wickets for 40 runs.

In reply, Wallasey’s John Pugh (66) guided his side to victory despite the efforts of Simon Kerrigan, who bowled 32 overs unchanged for his 4-50.

Nicky Caunce bowled Pugh with the first delivery of the final over but John Murphy and Neil Clarkson managed the three runs needed for the victory.

On Monday, Phil Armstrong ripped through Northern’s top order to leave the home side reeling at 46-4, including the wicket of former Ormskirk batsman Vaughan Williams.
