Flintoff ready to go on the attack
COACH Peter Moores is backing his Lancashire pace attack to wreak havoc at Aigburth this week.
The former England chief went into yesterday's County Championship showdown with Hampshire full of confidence after getting his first look at the wicket during training.
All-rounder Andrew Flintoff came through unscathed and will form an exciting three-pronged attack with former England team-mate Saj Mahmood and skipper Glen Chapple.
However, Jimmy Anderson is unavailable as England want him to rest ahead of the Ashes following his exertions in the World Twenty20.
Flintoff claimed six wickets on his return to action at Durham last week, while in the same game Mahmood achieved career best figures of 6-30.
Chapple has also been in fine form and Moores believes supporters are in for a treat.
"The wicket has certainly got pace which suits us," he said.
"As a batsman you can score runs quite quickly but there is also something in it for the bowlers and that should make for an exciting game.
"Saj bowled really well last week with some 90mph plus deliveries, "Chappy has bowled well all year and I think you'll see Andrew up the ante this week.
"He bowled well at Durham but he will feel fitter and stronger. He has come through it really well and the knee seems fine,
"This week is another step forward for him and hopefully he can get a decent four days in."
A decision has yet to be taken on whether Flintoff will feature in next Monday's Twenty20 Cup clash with Leicestershire at Aigburth.
