PLAYERS and representatives from Mawdesley Cricket Club attended the Palace Shield Annual Dinner to witness their hard work in 2012 and were rewarded with three prizes.
The event took place at Ribby Hall Leisure Village in Wrea Green with over 300 guests in attendance.
First XI captain Darren Le Marinel took to the stage to accept the Division Two title from former Lancashire player Gary Yates – although he will have to wait a little longer to get his hands on the silverware after 2011 winners South Shore failed to return the trophy!
It wasn't the only success for the first team.
Matt Watkinson picked up the Division Two wicket-keeping award in his debut season for the club thanks to his 24 dismissals, including an impressive 16 stumpings.
Martin Lewis represented the second XI with distinction in 2012. His 270 runs at an average of 30.00 saw him claim the Division Six batting award.
His return, which included a high score of 71 not out, would surely have been even higher had it not been for the decimated fixture list which saw 10 games lost for a variety of reasons.
The club will be hosting their own presentation evening prior to the start of the 2013 season.
Members of the successful first XI squad will receive their league winners awards while individual prizes will be presented to both senior and junior players who excelled in 2012.
WINTER net sessions will commence on January 23 at St Bede’s High School, Ormskirk running from 8pm-9pm for seniors.
All new players are very welcome to attend ahead of what promises to be an exciting year for Mawdesley Cricket Club.
