HESKETH Bank were due to entertain Ambleside United last Saturday in the first round of the President’s Cup, a tie which was initially postponed from last November.
However Ambleside had to withdraw from this season’s competition due to them not having enough players eligible to play in the competition.
Their manager and coach both left in December to take over at Evo-Stik League Northern Premier Division outfit Kendal Town and took most of Ambleside’s first team squad with them.
The cup rules dictate that only those players eligible for the original game may play in the re-arranged fixture and Ambleside only had seven players eligible.
Therefore Hesketh Bank are given a bye through to the next round which is yet to be drawn.
Ironically despite the recent bad weather the pitch at Station Road was possibly playable on a weekend that saw only two fixtures played throughout the whole of the West Lancashire Football League.
One of those saw current leaders extend their 100% record to 14 straight victories as Norcross & Warbreck travelled to Barrow and defeated Hawcoat Park by the only goal of the game.
Weather permitting this Saturday sees Hesketh Bank travel to face the league’s runaway leaders who have played the same number of games but are 14 points ahead in a match that kicks off at 2pm.
Meanwhile the reserves’ match last weekend was postponed after a pitch inspection on Friday at Longridge Town.
This Saturday they will be hoping for better weather as they entertain Stoneclough from Radcliffe at the Centenary Sports Ground which kicks off at 2pm.
