ON a rainy Tuesday afternoon Ormskirk’s under 13 girls team and a handful of supporting parents travelled to Mirfield Free Grammar School in Huddersfield.
At kick off both teams battled hard, Ormskirk seemed to take some time to get into the match and Mirfield took advantage with a quick break, leaving goal keeper Amelia Size with no chance.
The goal seemed to ignite something in Ormskirk and the girls started to dominate the play, with several shots on goal and half chances had before Lucy Staunton-Turner (captain) finally put Ormskirk on the score board with a great left footed strike.
Lucy scored again after half time when her cross from an obscure angle was misjudged by their keeper and made it into the back of the net.
She made it a hat-trick with another great piece of skill to put Ormskirk into a strong position before Jess Nunnen had a shot from inside the box to make it 4-1.
The goal of the match came from Erin Staunton-Turner, curling the ball around the defence and into the top right hand corner.
Mirfield had a penalty awarded in the last 10 minutes of the match to give them a consolation goal, but it was Ormskirk celebrating as they made the National Semi-finals.

The under 16s unfortunately weren’t quite as successful but there’s was still a great achievement to reach the last eight in the county.
