Karl Vella Cup goes all the way to penalties

LIVERPOOL County FA’s first cup final of the season was played at the JMO Park in Skelmersdale under floodlights on Monday evening.

The Karl Vella Cup was contested between AFC Liverpool and Harlequin who play in Skelmersdale Intermediate League.

The game was a classic between two teams eager to win their first silverware in the league and resulted in a 2-2 draw at full time.

Penalties were taken to decide the winners and Harlequin took the cup by winning the shoot-out 4-3.

The trophy was presented by Dave Pugh, chief executive of Liverpool County FA, to the Harlequin captain.

Ian Gregson, chairman of the league, said: “By ensuring we as a league have strong child protection policies we have allowed teams to fully develop and this game tonight has proven that they have developed.”
